Start with the fact that matters most
Goro's has no authorized dealers — none anywhere, of any kind. The brand's sole sales channel is its own Harajuku shop, and it has never appointed a dealer, distributor, or reseller. Any seller claiming to be an "authorized" or "official" Goro's dealer is claiming a status that does not exist, and that claim alone should make you cautious. Ginza Silver makes no such claim: we are an independent specialist dealer. Our inventory is acquired inside Japan and examined by us before it is listed.
Where our pieces come from
We buy within Japan — the domestic collector market where Goro's pieces have circulated for decades, where the deepest collections live, and where provenance is easiest to trace. Working this way is slower than picking up whatever surfaces on international marketplaces, and that is the point: the pool we draw from sits closest to the counter where these pieces were first sold.
What we examine before a piece is listed
Every item passes a physical examination before it appears on this site. The points we check are the same ones any serious collector would:
- Stamps and hallmarks — placement, depth, and letterform against known-authentic references for the design and era.
- The hand-carving itself — Goro Takahashi's work was done at the bench, and genuine pieces carry tool evidence that casting-produced copies lack: barb-by-barb feather texture, asymmetries in the right places, crisp undercuts.
- Weight and dimensions — measured and compared against reference examples; counterfeits routinely miss on mass.
- Patina and wear consistency — age should read coherently across a piece; artificial aging shows.
- Component integrity on setups — every feather, bead, wheel, and hook in an arrangement is checked individually.
A failed check usually announces itself in the details: a stamp struck too shallow and too uniform, feather barbs that repeat like a mold instead of wandering like a hand, weight that comes in light because the alloy or the volume is wrong. When any of that surfaces, the piece is not listed.
You see the exact item, not a sample
Every listing is photographed in-house, at high resolution, showing the actual piece that ships — including its patina and stamps. Measurements on the listing are taken from that item. If you want additional angles or detail shots of a specific stamp before buying, ask us and we will photograph it for you.
